Summary
Excerpts featuring Rudolf Nureyev in the principal role of Cléonte. He is seen donning various disguises in order to dupe Monsieur Jourdain, the bourgeois gentilhomme of the title, and dancing with his beloved, Jourdain's daughter Lucile. The segment depicting his second and third disguises, that of the dancing and fencing masters, appears out of sequence on this recording; there is a gap at ca. 4 min. into the tape, and the sequence that should follow does not appear until ca. 14 min. Beginning at ca. 7 min., there is no audio on the recording for about 7 min. Part of the silent footage is candid, including a glimpse of Nureyev at a dressing table onstage. The top of this dressing table is intermittently visible in subsequent footage of his solo in Turkish disguise and duet with Lucile. The French television program Ce soir--Versailles also recorded excerpts from this performance (see *MGZIA 4-4272 RNC [Ballet de l'Opéra de Paris]).
