Paul Langland discusses his family background, early artistic experiences and education; first interest in dance; the particularly collaborative and ephemeral nature of the form; his first exposure to music; more on his early involvement with dance and contact with the world of postmodern dance and Meredith Monk; joining Monk's company and vocal ensemble [Meredith Monk & Vocal Ensemble]; Monk's composition Dolmen music; the socio-cultural context of Monk's [and Ping Chong's] early work Chacon [Paris/Chacon/Venice/Milan]; Langland's piece Jungle breath (created with Daniel Lepkoff); Monk's ensemble work and the connection between her physical and musical work; Langland's piece Almost rapture; Monk's influence on his work; using her music for his piece Honor; his decision to stop working with Monk; his continued impressions of Monk and her work; critical and audience response to her work; anecdotal stories of his time with Monk.
