Summary

Documentation of the research and reconstruction of a ballet based on Alexander Pope's poem The rape of the lock (1717). Interactive text images, still images, and video clips explore and illustrate not only the dance of the 18th century but selected facets of its culture and society. Rehearsal and performance excerpts, along with interviews with the collaborators and performers, detail the complex process of reconstructing baroque dance and bringing it to life onstage. The disc includes performance footage of the twenty dances from the production, which also incorporated spoken text and pantomime.
