Summary
Entrant in the Dance Films Association's 32nd annual Dance on Camera Festival 2004. Profile of ballerina Marcia Haydée, much of it told in her own words. She describes her close-knit family in Brazil; her audition for John Cranko, who made her the prima ballerina of his company, the Stuttgart Ballet; and her overnight stardom after the company's performance of Cranko's ballet Onegin in New York City. She discusses her enjoyment of the collaborative process with choreographers, particularly Cranko, John Neumeier, and Maurice Béjart. Turning to her more recent activities, she talks about her house in Petropolis, Brazil; her collaboration with the young Brazilian choreographer Ismael Ivo; and her recent appearance in Béjart's Mère Thérèse [also known as Mother Teresa and the children of the world]. The program is illustrated with numerous performance and rehearsal excerpts.
