Summary
Inside/out is a series of outdoor programs in which artists perform and discuss their choreography with audiences in an informal setting. In this program, Stephen Petronio discusses his choreographic methods and ideas. Excerpts from two of his works, Adrift (with Clifford Arnell) and The sixth heaven, are performed by Petronio and other dancers. Petronio discusses the origins of the two pieces, and of his work Apollo object; his background as a dancer; the advantages and disadvantages of improvisation; the way he works with music; how his dancers contribute to his choreography; how he uses inspiration from photographic images; his ideas about partnering; emotional content in his work.
