- Summary
- A press conference lead by producer/director Joseph Papp concerning his Broadway fundraising drive for Cambodian refugees. The drive which has raised $192,841 so far from theater owners, audiences and individuals, will benefit the Cambodian medical relief efforts of the International Rescue Committee (IRC). Cambodians, performers and other concerned individuals participate in the press conference, which includes views of the current crisis ; actor Michael Moriarity's reading of a report from the IRC detailing the group's medical efforts; and discussion by a Cambodian father concerning his family's experiences living in the United States. Additionally composer Elizabeth Swados along with four Cambodian children performs songs; actress Liv Ullmann reads a letter from the IRC; and the chairman of the IRC accepts the check. Papp concludes the press conference with a rendition of America the beautiful, which he sings along with the spectators.
