Description
1 videocassette (VHS, NTSC) (14 min.) : sd., col.; 1/2 in.
Summary
Excerpts from the performance celebrating the 1982 Kennedy Center Honors. This recording opens with a tribute to dancer Gene Kelly by the French actor Yves Montand. Following a film montage (incomplete on this tape), Kelly is seen in the audience, accepting a standing ovation. In his introduction of Gregory Hines, host Walter Cronkite relates an anecdote about the birth of Hines' son Zachary, which was apparently edited out of the telecast version of the performance. Hines gives a brief speech, then sings and dances to the songs "I got rhythm" and "Fascinatin' rhythm."
