Summary
Inside/out is a series of outdoor programs in which artists perform and discuss their choreography with audiences in an informal setting. In the two programs on this tape, Susan Marshall speaks about her work, answers questions from the audience, and presents excerpts from Trio in four parts, Arms, Kin, and Arena. Marshall and the dancers introduce themselves and give brief accounts of their dance backgrounds. Marshall discusses narrative and emotional content in her work; her use of non-dance vocabulary; how she works with music; the significance of casting in her works; the dramatic potential of gesture of spatial relationships; her working method. In the second program, Marshall closely analyses Arms, which she performs with Arthur Armijo.
