Summary

Orchestra rehearsal conducted by Rudolf Nureyev; includes excerpts from two ballets composed by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, The nutcracker (first 39 min. and final 27 min. of tape) and The sleeping beauty. Nureyev is assisted by a man who appears to communicate between him and the orchestra. The rehearsal includes many interruptions and repetitions, and the sections of the scores are not played in sequence. In May 1992, Nureyev conducted a ballet performance of The nutcracker in the city of Kazan, the capital of the Tatarstan republic in western Russia (see *MGZIA 4-4356 RNC [Rudolf Nureyev conducting The nutcracker]).
