- Description
- 1 videocassette (VHS, NTSC) (27 min.) : sd., col.; 1/2 in.
- Summary
- Report on the tobacco company Philip Morris: its clout in the business world, its acumen in public relations and advertising, its shifting fortunes in the political sphere. Much of the program addresses the dichotomy of its philanthropic role as patron of the arts and its primary interest in selling a potentially deadly product. Randall Bourscheidt of the Alliance for the Arts and David White of Dance Theater Workshop point out Philip Morris's extensive and arguably crucial support for young emerging artists in New York City; this discussion is illustrated by video clips of experimental dance works. Richard Klein, author of Cigarettes are sublime, examines some of the reasons why people smoke in the face of numerous health warnings.
