Promotional spots for the New York Shakespeare Festival's Festival Latino in New York summer 1991 season. Tape one (ca. 1 min.) contains two unfinished segments featuring Jocabo Morales at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. There is no sound for Morales' voice. Tape two (ca. 1 min.) contains a promo for Festival Latino performances on cable television, and the completed version of the Delacorte Theater segment with Morales.

  • Started in 1976 by Oscar Ciccone and Cecilia Vega, the Festival Latino in New York became part of the New York Shakespeare Festival in 1984. Billed in a 1988 program as "the most important cultural event in the United States of America," the festival supported the full range of Latino dramaturgy in the U.S. with work intended to engage the contemporary Latino audience and promote cross cultural understanding. Annual festivals featured a mix of theater, dance, music and film from Spain, Portugal and Latin America, performed in Spanish, English, Italian and Portuguese, or in combination.
