Carolyn Adams, director of education at Jacob's Pillow, speaks to participants in an adult education seminar. Adams discusses her dance background and the growth and struggle of dance education in America; school outreach and library facilities at Jacob's Pillow; the One on one workshop, which offered students individual coaching; the scholarship program at Jacob's Pillow. After a break, David Parsons speaks to the group about his choreography. Parsons discusses his dance and choreographic background; issues surrounding the leasing of his work to other companies; his creative process; the making of A hairy night on bald mountain; his experience creating works for companies other than his own; his collaboration with lighting designer Howell Binkley; the lighting for his work Caught; how dancers learn and memorize movements; the completion and revision of choreographic works; audience reaction to dance pieces; autobiographical content in choreographic works; the salaries and health benefits earned by dancers. Audience members ask questions and comment on the premiere of A hairy night on bald mountain.
