Summary
Part of The Studies Project, an ongoing series of discussions, performances, and other presentations. As this tape (Reel 2 in a three-reel recording) begins, a discussion between the panel and the audience is already in progress. After 4 min., it is followed by a musical improvisation by Chris Cochrane and a dance improvisation by Danny Lepkoff. The discussion resumes at ca. 25 min. into the tape. The panelists speak from their own experiences as improvisers. Topics include: their response to the lack of structure; the interchange between performer and audience; whether improvisation is necessarily new or enjoyable to perform; assessing the current degree of interest in improvisation; the wide range of approaches among improvisers.
