  • Based on the unfinished novel by Charles Dickens, the 1985 stage musical version of The mystery of Edwin Drood was written by Rupert Holmes and produced by Joseph Papp and the New York Shakespeare Festival. The show opened on Broadway at the Imperial Theatre on December 2, 1985 and ran for 608 performances. The opening night cast included Betty Buckley, Cleo Laine, George Rose, Patti Cohenour, Howard McGillin, Jerome Dempsey and John Herrara.
