- "One hundred copies of this book were printed at the Red Angel Press"--Colophon.
- "This work was first published in the Atlantic monthly, June, 1874, and, with revisions, was later collected in Transatlantic sketches (1875) and in Italian hours (1909). For this edition we chose the 1874 version ... We have reprinted the text as it appeared; the original spelling and nineteenth century style of leaving contractions open were preserved"--Colophon.
- "The text was hand-set in Bembo type and printed on dampened [light brown] Fabriano Ingres paper. The design and wood-cut illustrations are by Ronald Keller ...The journal entry was marked with the date line 'Siena, October 15,' which we used as a sequential decorative device on the recto pages"--Colophon.
- Consists of a sewn signature of text (8 leaves, including 2 blank leaves at beginning, preliminaries and p. 1-8), and 4 leaves of text (p. 9-[12]), each with a portion of the ill. on verso, that are mounted to fold out from the sides of a low-relief matrix on the inside back cover, with the 5th portion of the ill. mounted on top. The ill. is a multi-color woodcut on 5 leaves depicting Siena's Piazza del Campo; the 4 fold-out leaves depict the surrounding buildings, while the 5th leaf depicts the sloped pavement. The image recreates the text's description of the moon shadow cast by the Palazzo Pubblico on the piazza. "The wood blocks were printed on Hiromi Tambo paper from Japan"--Prospectus.
