Raw footage documenting the New York Shakespeare Festival's Playwriting in the Schools (PITS) program. The footage shows public school students engaged with instructors in various dramatic exercises and rehearsals, and contains interviews with students, teachers and instructors who discuss their experiences with and views of the PITS program. Includes the students' end-of-year program.

Biography (note)

• Playwriting in the Schools (PITS) was an educational program established in 1985 under the sponsorship of producer/director Joseph Papp, the New York Shakespeare Festival and the New York City Board of Education. Conducted in collaboration with classroom teachers, the PITS program incorporated the study of drama and playwriting, taught by playwrights, in an effort to improve students' writing skills, and to develop their interest in acting, writing and directing for the theater. The program culminated in a performance given by the students.
