Summary
Charlie Rose interviews Merce Cunningham on the television program Nightwatch. The interview focuses mainly on Cunningham's work with video and television. Cunningham discusses how he became interested in working with video; the influence of television on the popularity of dance; how he learned to use the camera; the differences between dance on video and in live theater; the future of videodance. A brief excerpt from Cunningham's videodance piece Locale is shown, and Cunningham speaks about how the video was made. Cunningham discusses the relationship between dance and music in his work, and how he was influenced by working with Martha Graham.
