Summary
Merce Cunningham gives a talk on his videodance work. Cunningham discusses how he became interested in working with video; his collaboration with Charles Atlas; the development of their technique; the difference between camera space and stage space; cutting and editing in videodance; the dancers' experience making videodance pieces. Cunningham describes in detail the making of the videodance pieces Westbeth, Blue studio: five segments, Event for television, Torse, Fractions and Locale. The film Locale was shown as part of this program, but the screening does not appear on this tape. The tape begins and ends with aerial shots of the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
