- Merce Cunningham is interviewed before an audience at an event sponsored by the Digital Equipment Company in connection with its dance award. Cunningham discusses his feelings about the revival of Septet; how the choreography and use of music in Septet differ from his current work; his interest in Erik Satie's music; his ideas about the use of space in choreography; his use of chance, and the influence of the I Ching and Buddhist concepts on his work; the development of his technique and ideas about tempo in dance; the inspiration for and making of the pieces Summerspace, Torse, Points in space, Quartet, and Shards; his work with video and television; the experience of working with various composers in his studio Events; staging his work for other companies, and his opinion of Rambert Dance's performance of Septet.
