Summary
This tape contains footage of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company rehearsing Ocean prior to a performance of the piece at the Lincoln Center Festival. This rehearsal was filmed for a promotional broadcast by WNET/Channel Thirteen City Arts. The rehearsal, which is observed by Cunningham, without musical accompaniment, lasts 32 min. The remainder of the tape contains unedited footage shot in Brighton Beach to promote a visit to New York by the Kirov Opera and Ballet Theatre; footage includes performances by street musicians and interviews with local residents about the Kirov's reputation among Russian immigrants.
