Description
1 videodisc (43 min.) : sd., col. and b&w; 4 3/4 in.
Summary
Home video of two Christmastime gatherings held in a private home. The guests at the first gathering (first 11 min.) are predominantly men; the second includes more women and children. Gregory Hines, behind the camera, exchanges quips and converses with the guests as he moves around the rooms. In addition to the moving images, he also takes still shots, framed in white. At ca. 22 min., his elder brother Maurice, in a black shirt and baseball cap worn backwards, begins a script reading which continues at intervals through the rest of the recording. Parts are read with an older man (called "Uncle Sidney") and a young boy ("Zach" [Gregory's son]), whom Gregory Hines advises, "Use your pain, baby." At the end of the recording, the guests identify themselves by their first names. The camera focuses on a portrait photograph of Maurice and Gregory as young boys. There is no dance content in this recording.
