Summary
Unedited footage recorded for the documentary Limón: a life beyond words. Jennifer Muller, a dancer, choreographer, and director of her own company, was a former member of the José Limón Dance Company. She discusses her first encounter with Limón in his modern dance classes at Connecticut College; studying with him at The Juilliard School; joining the company; the qualities of his work that appealed to her; her experiences on the company's Far East tour [in 1963]; how her "Rubenesque" physique at the time led to Limón's creation of Dances for Isadora; Limón's relationship with his company members; Muller's roles in his works Comedy, A choreographic offering, and The winged; the influence of Sarah Stackhouse; partnering Limón and Louis Falco; her association with Falco's dance company; Limón's break with her and Falco; his disapproval of Falco's work The sleepers; the difficulties of ceasing to perform; influences on her choreography, principally Doris Humphrey and Limón; her definition of humanism and its application to dance; her opposition to the sanitized, mythicized image of Limón; her attempts to be reconciled with him.
