Summary
Profile of Marcia Haydée, dancer, choreographer, and ballet director. Her career with the Stuttgart Ballet is surveyed from the directorship of John Cranko, who made her a prima ballerina and international star, to her own assumption of the director's position. The program focuses on her performances in selected works: Cranko's The taming of the shrew; Kenneth MacMillan's Requiem; John Neumeier's Streetcar named Desire; ́Béjart's Wien, Wien, nur du Allein, Isadora, and The chairs (which she performed with Neumeier); and the musical On your toes, directed and choreographed by Larry Fuller. Haydée discusses creating the role of Katherine in Shrew; becoming a director and choreographer; her approach to her roles; her belief in attempting every style of dance; and her need to keep faith in herself.
