Summary
Workprint featuring selected scenes from Dead end kids, a movie version of Mabou Mines' avant-garde Off-Broadway play about the effects of the atomic bomb on American life, culture and thought. The play was conceived, written and directed by JoAnne Akalaitis and produced by Joseph Papp and the New York Shakespeare Festival, where it ran at the Public Theater from November 18, 1980 to March 1, 1980. The movie version, released in 1986, was produced by Monty Diamond and Marian Godfrey. The cast includes David Byrne and Philip Glass, who also composed the music. The movie retains the play's original collage structure incorporating "interviews, eyewitness accounts and sketches interwoven to create a kaleidoscopic history of the nuclear age."
