- Summary
- Disc 4 (ca. 48 min.). Hawkins speaks in general terms about leadership, democracy, and fascism; the relationship between [an artist's] basic premises and dance composition, with reference to a variety of topics including his views on African dance, an anecdote from Gertrude Stein's book The autobiography of Alice B. Toklas, his pursuit of dancing based on American culture, and his thoughts on Martha Graham's work Frontier; Hawkins has a student demonstrate a dynamic study she created; discussion of the study [ends abruptly].
- Disc 5 (ca. 48 min.). Discussion of the student's dynamic study continues, centering on the meaning of the word gesture; discussion of art, from the aspects of aesthetics and of a work's intended meaning; the discussion includes Hawkins' references to terms used in F.S.C. Northrop's book The logic of the sciences and the humanities [short gap; recording seems to have been stopped during period two students were demonstrating their dynamic study]; discussion of the students' dynamic study [ends abruptly].

- Class taught by Erick Hawkins on June 6, 1985; this recording is the second in a series of recordings of classes on dance composition taught by Hawkins at New York University, New York City. The recording contains exchanges of questions and answers between Hawkins and the class participants, including David Sears, who recorded the class.
- The sound quality is fair to poor, and the recording is marred by extraneous noise. The sound quality of the questions and comments by the students is sometimes very poor.
