Summary
John Gruen begins with introductory remarks about Moses Pendleton, his company, Pilobolus, and some of his recent projects, including the dance Relâche and choreography for Mussorgsky's opera Khovanshchina; Pendleton speaks about Pilobolus, including changes in the company's composition; the formation of Momix; choreographing and dancing in the opera Khovanshchina, for La scala; the Persian dance segment, in which Alison Chase performed the role of the seductress; his conception of his role as time passing [the overture to Khovanshchina is played; break for announcements, etc.]; choreographing the ballet Relâche for the Paris Opéra Ballet in 1979, and for the Joffrey Ballet in 1980; the pioneering aspects of the original 1924 production; Pilobolus as a fluid and evolving entity since its founding; the direction in which it is now heading; Pilobolus's New York City performances, past and projected; Gruen speaks about a possible shift in the type of scores used by Pilobolus to more mainstream composers such as Igor Stravinsky [excerpt of Stravinsky's composition Tango is played]; Pendleton speaks about future projects, including participation in a Fête de l'humanité, celebrating the 100th anniversary of Picasso's birth, and tours in Europe and the U.S.
