- Poet, stand-up comic, writer, singer and performer David Langston Smyrl has appeared in plays and musicals on and off-Broadway, writing the book, lyrics and music for some of the works in which he performed. During the 1970s and early 80s three of Smyrl's works were commissioned and produced by Joseph Papp and the New York Shakespeare Festival. These include On the lock-in (1977), directed by Robert Macbeth, see NCOV 5025. Smyrl is noted also for his work as a film and television actor, TV and radio producer and voiceover announcer.
