- Summary
- Female impersonator John Epperson, better known under his stage name of Lypsinka, discusses his career with interviewer Patrick Horrigan. Epperson begins with his childhood in Mississippi, the difficulties he experienced as a gay person in that culture, his early work in musical theater, his move to New York City in the 1970s, and his longtime job as rehearsal pianist with the American Ballet Theatre. He reminisces about the East Village club scene of the late '70s and early '80s, his initial performances as a female impersonator, the influence of old movies on his work, and the creation of his stage persona, Lypsinka.
