- Summary
- Television coverage related to the controversy surrounding the Broadway musical Miss Saigon. The controversy was provoked by producer Cameron Mackintosh's casting of a white British actor, Jonathan Pryce, in the Eurasian lead role of the Engineer. Actors' Equity initially barred Pryce from appearing in the show on Broadway on the grounds that part should go to an Asian actor, and then later reversed its decison. Segments include interview excerpts with Charlton Heston, Jonathan Price, Actors' Equity president Colleen Dewhurst, theatrical producer Joseph Papp, and various Asian American actors. Videocassette two includes a segment relating to New York Shakespeare Festival performer Denzel Washington.
