- Summary
- "A project book [was] issued from the first [Phase A 1996] workshop, containing a dense collection of visual imagery, found texts, historical and fictional narratives, in addition to Robert Wilson's ideas for stage design. The book was then the basis for the staging of 12 scenes, which took place in the Phase B workshop. For the conception of each scene, basic situations recreating apocalyptic histories and myths were used for a performance ensemble of Watermill participants to choreograph an abstract layer of formal movement. The resulting arrangement of scenes corresponded to outlines for stage action, which was carefully recorded by a team of assistant directors and dramaturgs. A second production book presented more specific models for stage design, a breakdown of scenes, and a condensed body of texts and visuals that provided suggestions for an additional layer of film, video, and slide projections. Directions with regard to text or sound were as-of-yet undecided."--New York State Theatre world premiere program
