  • "The stars is a collaboration between the artist Vija Celmins and the essayist and translater Eliot Weinberger. Celmins created two etchings for the project, which she also designed. Weinberger has assembled a catalogue of descriptions of the stars, drawn from around the world and from an array of historical, literary, and anthropological sources The text was translated into Arabic by Sinan Antoon, into Chinese by Bei Dao, into Hindi by Siddharth Chowdhury, into Japanese by Hiroaki Sato, and into Maori by Piripi Walker ... Leslie Miller ... designed and printed the texts by letterpress on Somerset paper at the Grenfell Press in New York. She also typeset the English-language version of the text; the translations were typeset by Atlas Translations, London"--Colophon.
  • "Celmins created the reverse star etching from three etching plates, using spit-bite, dry point, and soft ground. She created the cover etching from four plates, using spit-bite, dry point, soft ground, and photogravure. The third image is a hard ground etching"--Publisher's description. The "reverse star etching" is printed on 2 folded leaves; the "cover etching" forms the wrappers of the volume.
  • "Doris Simmelink and Chris Sukimoto proofed and printed the etchings from plates made by the artist using aquatint, burnishing, dry point, spit bite, and soft ground techniques at Simmelink/Sukimoto Editions, Kingston, New York. Lothar Osterburg produced the photogravure plate that was used as the basis for the cover image. The etchings are printed on handmade gampi paper"--Colophon.
  • Deluxe copies accompanied by second copy of the cover etching on gampi paper, chine collé to Somerset paper.
