- Biography
- Dancer, teacher, dance critic and scholar, Ernestine Stodelle (b. 1912) is perhaps best known for her work reconstructing the choreography of Doris Humphrey. Stodelle began her professional career as one of the original members of the Humphrey-Weidman Dance Company (1929-1935) and she also joined with José Limón and other company members to form the Little Group (1930-1935) to present their own choreography. Married to journalist John R. Chamberlain, for many years she directed her own studio in Connecticut. As a dance scholar, Stodelle published books on Doris Humphrey (1978) and Martha Graham (1984), as well as numerous articles in journals. She also contributed feature stories and dance reviews to the New Haven Register. Stodelle received the Congress on Research in Dance (CORD) award for Leadership in Dance Research in 1999.
