- Summary
- Video made for the program Honoring Anne Belle: a film tribute, presented as part of the Dance on Camera Festival 2004. The program also included guest speakers. The video begins with a montage of still photographs of filmmaker Anne Belle, her family, and some of her subjects. The film portion of the video begins with clips from her short documentary Henry (b&w), about an old man living on a sugar barge in New York harbor; and Baymen: our waters are dying, a documentary about shellfishermen on Long Island. These are followed by excerpts from her best known films, documentaries about the ballet world: Reflections of a dancer--Alexandra Danilova, prima ballerina assoluta; Dancing for Mr. B: six Balanchine ballerinas; and Suzanne Farrell, elusive muse. The video also includes footage from a documentary about ballet teacher Stanley Williams, which Belle was working on at the time of her death. In this footage, Williams is seen teaching a men's class at the School of American Ballet in New York City, and Mikhail Baryshnikov praises him in a brief interview. Belle's voice is also heard in audio recordings: the first, a radio sign-off recorded when she was still Anne Stagg; the second, an excerpt from a speech about her film on Danilova.
