  • These videos separated from the New York Shakespeare Festival collection, *T-Mss 1993-028.
  • Videocassette one (ca. 19 min.): Playwriting in the schools grammar school production by All Saints School eighth grade class and P.S. 155, honoring teachers and administrators at their schools. Each teacher is nominated with short description of achievements at their school. Students perfom skits they have written. Tape ends abruptly.
  • Videocassette two (ca. 16 min.): This is a continuation of the previous tape. Students perform short skits they have written. Skits include dealing with emotions, growing up, family life, and school.
  • Videocassette three (ca. 18 min.): Class peforms aerobic exercise and dance with teacher. Students perform skit about home life, school, life pressures.
  • Videocassette four (ca. 20 min.): Skit: If I had a million dollars. The students were asked to write about how it would feel to have money. . .or not. Students perform response.
  • Videocassette five (ca. 17): Monologue on how the students feel about music.
  • Videocassette six (ca. 15 min.): Students perform various skits; reverse roles as student and teacher.

  • Playwriting in the Schools (PITS) was an educational program established in 1985 under the sponsorship of producer/director Joseph Papp, the New York Shakespeare Festival and the New York City Board of Education. Conducted in collaboration with classroom teachers, the PITS program incorporated the study of playwriting taught by playwrights and drama in an effort to improve students' writing skills, and to develop their interest in acting, writing and directing for the theater.
