- Biography (note)
- During the 1970s and 80s theatrical producer Joseph Papp offered shelter to many theatrical companies at the Public Theater, including Peter Schumann's Bread and Puppet Theater, Joseph Chaikin's Open Theater, Andre Gregory's Manhattan Project, Doug Dyer's Commune, and Felix Camilo's The Family. Papp's relationship with avant-garde theatrical group Mabou Mines began when he saw a production of Dead End Kids at P.S. 122. He invited the show to his theater where it ran for 97 performances during 1980 and 1981.--from Joe Papp: An American Life by Helen Epstein.
