- Summary
- Tere O'Connor describes how language and literature in the broadest sense of genre, content, and form have influenced and affected his choreography. Specific works he discusses are Learning sentences, The world is a missing girl, Hi everybody!, Choke, Winter belly, Lawn, and Four sister dances. O'Connor reflects on how his choreographic process and the development of text has been influenced by literature with specific reference to the writers, Eugène Ionesco, Ian McEwan, Edward P. Jones, Toni Morrison and Annie Proulx. He discusses his choreographic works in the context of dance writers and critics, including perceptions regarding modern dance choreography. Finally, Linda Shapiro reads selections from O'Connor's writings, and O'Connor responds.
