- Summary
- Excerpts from the composition Soundshapes are interspersed with comments from the creator Tan Dun, who discusses how the work draws on traditional Chinese peasant music and ritual. Dun confers with potter Ragnar Naess, who collaborated on creating instruments for the work, and demonstrates various instruments. Dun speaks about his experiences living in the countryside during the Chinese Cultural Revolution.
