Summary
  • Disc 1 (ca. 63 min.). Klarna Pinska reminisces about her career, focusing on her work in connection with the Federal Dance Theatre of the Works Progress Administration. Topics include Ruth St. Denis, Pinska's political activities, her economic circumstances, her activities during World War II, including her training as a welder, and her staging of the Spirit of Denishawn [a film of a group of dances, including Pinska's dance Spirit of Denishawn, as performed by the Joyce Trisler Danscompany at the Riverside Church in New York City; cataloged in the Library's collection as *MGZIC 9-695]. She also speaks briefly about various dancers, choreographers, and others connected with the dance world, including Don Oscar Becque, Jerome Robbins, Charles Weidman, John Martin, Agnes de Mille, Doris Humphrey, Helen Tamiris, Louis Horst, and Joyce Trisler. At the beginning of the recording and again in the course of the interview, Pinska also looks at photographs of various dancers and choreographers, while commenting on them.
