- Biography
- The Grand Opera Company of Philadelphia operated between 1926 and 1932. At the time it was one of three resident opera companies in the city. Philadelphia Orchestra conductor Leopold Stokowski led several important performances for the company during the 1930s, including the Philadelphia and New York premieres of Alban Berg's opera, Wozzeck (1931), which featured designs by Robert Edmond Jones, as well as the world premiere of Carlos Chávez's ballet, H.P. (1932), with designs by Diego Rivera and choreography by Catherine Littlefield.
