- Buttons and pins manufactured between 1920 and 1993 by or for African-American organizations. The majority bear a design (drawing or photograph) accompanied by a statement or a slogan. Organizations include labor unions, social and arts related organizations. Buttons bear political slogans and support socio-political issues and campaigns. Organizations represented include the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, International Black Expo, Boys' Choir of Harlem, National Congress of Negro Women, Abyssinian Baptist Church, African Methodist Episcopal Church (membership and conventions), Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture (exhibits and preservation campaign), National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and the American Civil Liberties Union.
