- Summary
- Documentary about the life and career of Margot Fonteyn featuring new and archival interviews with colleagues, friends and family members interspersed with performance, newsreel and home movie footage. The documentary explores Fonteyn's on and off-stage struggles: her childhood and relationship with her mother; her dance training and position in the Royal Ballet; her relationship with conductor Constant Lambert; the Royal Ballet's experiences during World War II and the company's move to Covent Garden; Fonteyn's relationship with Roland Petit; the growth of her fame in America; her marriage to Dr. Roberto "Tito" Arias, its political implications, the effects of her husband's paralysis, her relationships with her son-in-law Roberto, her move to a farm in Panama; Fonteyn's dance partnership with Rudolf Nureyev; the continuation of her career despite age and health problems; her later life in Panama and financial difficulties; her death and legacy.
