- Summary
- This broadcast features interviews with Nikki Giovanni and two student poets attending Columbia University. Giovanni reflects on her career as black poet in America, writing poetry while raising a child as a single mother and the political landscape in the United States and how it influences black artists. The students interviewed discuss their early interest in writing and poetry and the obstacles they see that are peculiar to a black writer. Editor and critic Lindsay Patterson is also featured.
