Summary
This program contains a panel discussion of Big Dance Theater's production Shunkin, interspersed with staged scenes from the piece. The creators explain how their inspiration came both from the source material, Japanese writer Juniʼchirō Tanizaki's 1933 novel Shunkin shō, the story of a blind female musician and her servant, and from D. A. Pennebaker's documentary portrait of Bob Dylan, Don't look back. They also discuss their reasons for casting three performers in the title role, and their blend of dance and musical performance in the production.
