Summary
This program features a panel discussion about choreographer Donald Byrd's Jazz train, interspersed with performances of excerpts from the dance, which is divided into three movements, each by a different composer. Byrd discusses his interest in jazz as dance music, and his collaborations with composers Roach, Reid, and Allen. The composers talk about working with the choreographer and the dancers, sometimes in an improvisatory manner, and about the roots of their music.
