- Summary
- This program focuses on the new Playwrights Horizons musical My life with Albertine, adapted from a section of Marcel Proust's A la recherche du temps perdu. A panel discussion with composer and co-lyricist Gordon and librettist, co-lyricist, and director Nelson is interspersed with performances of songs from the musical. The panelists discuss how their collaboration on the work evolved, from rough outline and song ideas to composition of the music and lyrics, then writing of the book, and finally underscoring. They also talk about the rehearsal process and the show-within-a-show setting. Gordon discusses his musical influences, most prominently French movie composers such as Georges Delerue, and Nelson reads a few pertinent passages from Proust.
