- Summary
- This program features a panel discussion about Tony Kushner's new play Homebody/Kabul, interspersed with performances of four monologues from the play. Kushner discusses the genesis of Homebody/Kabul, his interest in Afghanistan and its recent history as a subject, and the challenge of balancing political and artistic activity, particularly in the wake of September 11. He also talks about the thematic importance of language in his work, and reads from another of his texts, The intelligent homosexual's guide to socialism and capitalism, with a key to the scriptures. Nicola discusses his role as artistic director of New York Theatre Workshop, and the company's mission to support artists who provide a perspective on events and institutions in a historical context.
