- Description
- 1 videodisc (NTSC) (82 min.) : sd., col.; 4 3/4 in.
- Summary
- This program focuses on Terra prenyada (which translates as the pregnant earth), an improvisatory performance piece mixing puppetry, painting, and music. Excerpts from the piece, which is directly inspired by artist Joan Baixas' trip to war torn Sarajevo, are interspersed with a panel discussion, in which Baixas talks aobout his puppetry background and his experience working with painter and fellow Catalan Joan Miro. He also describes his travels around the world, gathering inspiration from Balinese shadow puppetry and gathering elements--including ochre-colored earth from Australia, and ashes from a devastated Sarajevo library--used in the paintings he creates during his performances. Rodrigue addresses the issue of responding to Baixas' artistic improvisations with complementary musical improvisations.
