Summary
This program features a performance of Kevin O'Day's new ballet Principia, preceded by a conversation with the choreographer. O'Day discusses his background as a musician and dancer, working with choreographers Twyla Tharp and William Forsythe, and making the transition to choreography. He also talks about working as a guest choreographer with the dancers of Les grands gallets canadiens, the Montreal company that commissioned Principia, and demonstrates a few exercises that he used on the dancers. The program begins with O'Day dancing a solo to recorded country-and-western music.
