- This interview focuses on Douglas Dunn's writing and its relationship to his choreography and dancing. On disc 1 Dunn speaks about the use of text in his works; his experiments with dancing to traditional music; the video work The myth of modern dance, made in collaboration with Charles Atlas; keeping a journal and a record of his dreams; revising writing vs. choreogaphy; his creative process and idea-gathering in preparation for choreography. On disc 2, Dunn discusses audience reactions to his works and what audiences want from dance; abstraction vs. the use of myth and symbolism in dance; the work Spell for opening the mouth of N--, created in collaboration with Joshua Fried; the quality of "assertion" in his performance style, compared to that of Merce Cunningham; his attitude towards time and memory; changes in the cultural status of dance; the work Higgs field and how it drew on scientific theories; dance writing as a literary form.
