- Summary
- Moderator Larry Rinder interviews Marianne Weems, co-founder of the Builders Association, a New York multimedia performance ensemble, and Keith Kahn, co-founder of Motiroti, an installation art/performance team from London. Weems and Kahn talk about their collaborative work, Alladeen. Echoing the tale of Aladdin, the production uses multimedia to examine how our identities get distorted through the circuits of technology. The action alternates between an international call center in Bangalore (a tech center in India which services global telemarketing) where Indian workers learn to pass as Americans by studying popular TV shows such as Friends and Frasier, and the colorful worlds of Hollywood and Bollywood. Includes a clip from a documentary called How to neuter the mother tongue : accent neutralization, about the Indian call centers, as well as several vignettes from Alladeen. Marianne Weems introduces the technical team for the production-- sound designer, Dan Dobson; lighting designers, Alan Hahn and Jennifer Tipton; and the video team, Jeff Morey, Peter Flaherty and Chris Condek. Peter Flaherty describes the digital video system used in the production.
